About!
Founding
Pallottine Missionary Fr. Tommy Ryan SAC is the Founder of the Siuyu Children’s Rehabilitation Centre, and it remains his life’s mission! Built through the benefactors of Irish friends and family, as well as donations from the United States and Europe, it was inaugurated by Bishop Bishop Desderius Rwoma on February 20th, 2007. Its legal holder is the Catholic Diocese of Singida, and it’s run through the Union of the Catholic Apostolate - Pallottine Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, and Lay Associates. The Centre began with twenty students and one classroom, and has expanded to forty students, and four classrooms! Learn more about their daily life!
Mission
Inspired by St. Vincent Pallotti’s motto “the love of Christ urges us on” (2 Cor 5:14), the Centre’s apostolate is to provide services that will assist the disabled child to actualize his or her God given potential and vocation. This is achieved through fostering the handicapped child’s education through primary school, to acquire the necessary skills for everyday life.
The Centre also provides both physio and occupational therapy for the resident children, as well as for pre-school children who come during the month with their mothers.
Likewise, through seminars and teaching, it aims to enable community leaders to me more away of the rights of the disabled, and their place in the community. In a phrase, the Centre’s mission is to fulfill the Gospel through services towards disabled children.
Vision
Siuyu Children’s Rehabilitation Centre dreams that every disabled child in Tanzania, especially the intellectually impaired, can avail of education and personal development; and that the Tanzanian Goverment provides the necessary facilities that enable this vision to be brought to fruition.
